1.  There's a 7.25%
     occupancy tax on every
     hotel on the islands.

2.  Not all hotels are on the
     beach or has a beach.
     Most of Hawaii's coast is
     covered with rocks and
cliffs.  So ask if the hotel
     you are thinking of staying
in is on the beach or near
a beach if you're not sure.

3.  Shop for car rental rates
     before you leave you're
home to lock on a good
     rate.

4.  Rent a car with unlimited
     mileage.  You'll be
     surprise with the amount
     of miles you'll be driving.

5.  Stay safe and play it safe.
     When out and about,
     specially in tourist spots,
     keep your belongings with
you at all times and check
     your wallets and purses
once in a while to make
     sure they're still with
     you.  In the hotels, lock
     up traveller's checks, cash
     and other valuables in
     hotel safes.  []

Tired of visiting the same old touristy islands?  Are you looking for some place that has more than just resorts with their generic luaus with the guys twirling fire and girls shaking their grass skirts?  We think we just might have the place.  Micronesia!
The Federated States of Micronesia offers more of a hardcore island adventure for those who are seeking a bit more of a "Mutiny on the Bounty" island hopping vacation.
First of all, there is Pohnpei Island, the capital of Micronesia.  You can rent a cottage for something like $120/night or check in a hotel.  There are 42 rivers and streams that create wonderful waterfalls.  Hiking trails are everywhere.  Just a bit of advice, don't eat the eals. There's an old legend about those eals.
Next, there's Chuuk Island.  It used to be called Truk.  This is
where 60 Japanese ships were sunk by the United States back in February 17, 1944.  The island offeres some of the best deep sea diving in the world.  he lagoon contains a dozen islands and you could even spend the night on some of them.
Palau Island has a population of about 18,000 people.  There are 343 islands around it, perfect for hiking.  The special dish cooked on the island is fruit bat which takes about 5 hours to cook.  Find a guide to take you to Jelly Fish Lake and swim with the jelly fish.  These jelly fish don't sting and are okay to touch since they have no natural enemies there.
Lastly, Yap Island is the island of the stone money.  They still use traditional stone currency.  You can check out the stone bank.  ALL women on this island must cover their thighs as it is custom.  Also, to visit its neighboring islands, you must receive permission but worth it. []
